Our welding courses are run by our experienced fabricators in our fully equipped production workshop in Andover, Hampshire, on Saturday mornings. Small groups, real machines and lots of time actually welding.

MIG welding course
9am–1pm · small group · max 4 people
For complete beginners and for welders with some experience who want to get results quickly. Tailored to what you want to weld: car bodywork, equipment repair, sculpture or general fabrication.
Covers machine set-up, gas and power connections, torch set-up and consumables, and setting the machine for different material thicknesses (mild steel only), then practice on test coupons and square and round tube in various positions.
TIG welding course
9am–3pm · small group · max 4 people
For complete beginners and for welders with some experience. Tailored to your work: car bodywork, pipework and exhausts, sculpture or general fabrication.
Covers the same ground as the MIG course on a TIG set: machine, gas and torch set-up, parameters for different thicknesses (mild steel), and practice in various positions. Instruction in aluminium TIG welding can also be offered if required.
Aluminium TIG welding course
Small group · max 4 people · 9am–3pm
For entry-level welders and those with some experience who want to improve on aluminium. Some TIG experience on mild or stainless steel is strongly recommended first.
Covers gas selection, power settings and torch set-up for aluminium, choosing the right tungsten and filler rod, heat control to prevent warping, and hands-on practice on test pieces.
1-to-1 full day tuition
Full day, 8:30am–5pm · one-to-one · almost any day
A full day with one of our experienced welder-fabricators, covering any aspect of MIG, TIG or laser welding on mild steel, stainless or aluminium. We discuss what you want from the day beforehand.
Learn from scratch, work with your own equipment, focus on frames, pipe and exhaust work or thin sheet, or bring your own project. We can also help produce laser-cut or folded parts for your project, which may cost extra.
What the group courses include
Small groups. A maximum of 4 participants. On the MIG and TIG courses there is 1 experienced fabricator instructor with a set of equipment each.
More welding, less theory. The courses get straight to the point, with lots of practice time actually welding.
Everything provided. All equipment, PPE and consumables, plus tea and coffee.
A complete beginner can expect to finish a MIG or TIG course able to set up a machine and achieve a decent weld in standard positions, ready for further practice at home or work.
Before you book
No previous experience is needed for the MIG, TIG and 1-to-1 courses.
All participants must be 18 or over.
Wear closed shoes, long trousers and long sleeves. All PPE and equipment is provided.
Welding and fabrication is an inherently risky activity, so you will be asked to sign a waiver at the start of the course. Please contact us if you would like to see it in advance.
Why booking is on HF Welding Supplies
Hurstbourne Forge is our fabrication business. Welding equipment, consumables and courses are handled by HF Welding Supplies, our welding supplies business on the same Andover site, so that is where you will find course dates and booking.
The courses are run in our production workshop at Unit 4 Brunel Gate, West Portway, Andover SP10 3SL.
Need a welder to take home?
If you are new to welding and need equipment after the course, HF Welding Supplies has several ‘ready to weld’ packages. Order one in advance and you can use it on the course itself, so you learn on your own machine.
They can also advise on and supply consumables and accessories, including gas bottles, for your existing machine.
