Deburring & finishing

From an economical as-cut component to a cosmetic brushed surface, four defined finish levels make the expected edge and appearance clear, with automated processing available for high volume production.

Four options, matched to your part

We offer clear finishing options to make sure your parts are just right for the application.

Level 0

No finish / as cut

For parts going into further processing or fabrication. Supplied as cut with minor scratches permitted and heavy dross removed. A small burr can remain across the normal material and thickness range, apart from mild steel over 3mm thick.

Level 1

Clean / deburred

A semi-finished part suitable for coating or use as it is. Dross and burr are removed, usually from the back face, edges are slightly broken and larger imperfections are selectively linished. The surface may not be completely consistent or scale-free.

Level 2

Fully finished

Dross is removed, the part is fully deburred, edges are broken and all surfaces receive a consistent random-sanded, linished or tumbled finish. Suitable for use as-is or for further coating and finishing; folded parts can retain press-brake die marks.

Level 3

Brushed finish

A cosmetic display finish for stainless steel or aluminium only. Parts are fully deburred and both surfaces receive a consistent brushed finish. Level 3 is not offered on mild steel.

Mechanical finishing in motion

The route depends on the material, geometry, quantity and finish level: efficient machine processing where it suits the part, careful hand work where access or appearance needs judgement.

Choose by what happens next

An internal bracket going straight into another fabrication may need only an as-cut or clean-deburred finish. A handled cover, visible stainless panel or display component benefits from a more controlled edge and surface standard.

Tell us which faces are visible, which edges are handled, whether the part will be folded, welded or coated, and what appearance matters in the final assembly. We will suggest the least wasteful level that still does the job properly.

Not the same as powder coating

Deburring and mechanical finishing remove burrs, break edges and control the metal surface itself. Powder coating adds a separate coloured protective layer after the part has been prepared.

A job can need one or both. Parts being powder coated still need an appropriate preparation level; a brushed stainless or aluminium display part may need mechanical finishing with no coating at all.

Other finishes? Mirror polishing, shotblasting, galvanising and other final finishes can be discussed and quoted on request.

Put the useful detail on the drawing

Mark visible faces

Identify cosmetic faces, handled edges and surfaces hidden after assembly. If both faces are visible, say so.

State material and level

Specify the material and finish level for each part. Level 3 is limited to stainless steel and aluminium.

Flag direction

For brushed items, specify grain direction if needed.

Tell us how the finished part will be used

Send the drawing, material, quantity and required level, or describe the handling, appearance and next process. Our team will help select a practical finish before quoting.

We deliver across Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire and Dorset, and nationwide by parcel and pallet.
